By default, when you start using TRIPBAM you are in what we call “Shop Only” mode where you can preview the savings without making a reservation. When you review and accept an offer in this mode, you are prompted to “flip” the search to “Shop & Confirm” mode which makes actual bookings. Because we did not actually secure the originally offered rate with a real credit card, we have to re-shop and therefore re-offer that rate. If you respond to offers quickly enough, more often than not that rate will be available – but sometimes the rate changes or is no longer available.
That is how we work today – we do understand this process is not ideal from a User Experience perspective and take to heart your honest feedback. We are working on a UX redesign for our consumer site that should address this and many other usability concerns…

indicate in the email subject that there are no better deals
Then, I would not actually have to read the body of the email on my cell phone. Right now, I have to swipe down to the body of the email to figure out that there are no better deals, and that's kind of annoying.

don't send an incorrect alert - 2 nights are more expensive than 1!
I'm booked for 2 nights at the Renaissance Washington in DC, for $236.00 per night. That's a total of $472 for TWO nights. I'm getting alerts for a cheaper rate of $384 or $334 PER NIGHT at that hotel... please check your search logic and calculate the nightly rates correctly.
Also, in the "Decline" reason list, you might want a button for "something's wrong with this rate."
Thanks!

change test mode to book resercation
How to you change a test mode search to an actual booking?
1 voteWe missed a few support tickets that were entered in as Ideas so we’re sorry this was missed. Since this question was asked, we’ve changed the process to be a little easier. After accepting a “Shop Only” rate offer, you are prompted right away to convert it over to “Shop & Confirm”. This will take you to a page where you can provide more information required for reserving such as phone, confirmation card, etc. We do not charge your credit card, we only pass it along to the hotel for guarantee purposes. We never offer non-refundable, pre-pay or non-cancellable rates so this is a pretty safe thing to do.
Once you get familiar with TRIPBAM, you’ll find that having a search in “Shop & Confirm” mode is pretty convenient as we will reserve the rate as soon as we find it – if you decline, we cancel. If we…

The cancellation policy is in the confirmation email we send as well as on the offer details page, located under the MY TRIPS —> MY RESULTS menu.
We never offer hotels that are non-cancellable, non-refundable or pre-pay. We also automatically stop searching if we reach the “Cancel By” date of the currently booked hotel (if any). So you should be pretty safe from this perspective, but always review the Cancellation Policy on the “MY RESULTS” record for the booking in question just to be sure.
So sorry for the late reply, this was a support question submitted as an idea and just tonight we found a handful of those that we missed from a while ago.

Thanks for the suggestion. The challenge we have is it’s really hard to tell if a deposit is non-refundable (or not). Most of them are but several hotels offer rates with deposits that are not refundable which is why we need to be careful.

Thanks for the feedback – we’ve been working on some great new interface changes and this is among them. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: As we’re sure you’ve noticed already, in 2015 we added a confirmation page that clearly registers both accepts and declines and helps you understand what we’ll be doing next. Usually, you don’t have to do anything and we’ll either continue shopping or stop shopping, depending on your choices on the previous page. Apologies for the late reply, there are a few ideas on our Support Site that we missed.

Do not send daily emails
I suggest you do not send daily emails like "tripBAM is still processing your search". I´m really getting tired of them. And when you have more one search, it gets even worse.
17 votesWe actually added a setting early 2015 under the Preferences page to turn off daily emails. Sorry we forgot to update this thread!
To access your preferences page, click on the ACCOUNT menu in the upper right, then click PREFERENCES. The setting is called "Send daily search emails and you can uncheck this to disable the daily emails.

Provide rate at reference hotel
when returning rates, provide the rate at my reference hotel when booking another hotel as a reference rate. Users that provide a hotel name are biased for some reason. Rather than require they shop, reply back with the rate at that hotel (plus top x in the cluster) to provide perspective.

provide the best rate for the starting hotel as well as the lowest for the cluster
Allow the user to see additional rates for the cluster (reference hotel, all hotels in the cluster, lowest by bed type, number of rooms, etc). Avoids the user going to a preferred hotels website and validating the rates outside of the system.

Allow a user to shop without a credit card
Somehow allow a user to sign up in shop only mode and provide notifications when rates change but not book. (No book mode). Provide a clear and easy process to convert to book mode. Have a shop only option where the traveler enters their card. email notifications have a link to convert to book mode.

let me start a new trip from the existing trip pages
once a cluster is confirmed, I'm more likely to be in the mood to create other clusters for future trips
